Tub Spout Endlessly Leaks!
Hello everyone,
I have a tub spout that has been leaking for a few days now, and to say I'm dreading my next water bill is an understatement!
I figured the problem had to lie with the spout alone, so I went out and bought a universal spout today, but unfortunately when tightened it to the max the leak still persists. One thing I should note is that at this point the nipple seems to be protruding a little too far from the wall to be able to completely fasten the new spout flush with the wall. When I have it tightened I am still faced with one eighth of an inch (1/8) between the wall and the spouts end. Could this be my problem? Or am I looking at having to replace the nipple?
Now with that said, if my problem is the nipple, I'm assuming it would be wise to kill the water to the house before replacing it? I'm thinking of water running between the walls... yikes!
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Chris

Hey Chris,
I hate to "bust yo bubble" but the tub spout never was the cause of the leakage. I wish you would have contacted us brfore purchasing a new one.
The problem lies with your mixing valve. In order to help I need the brand name of your valve, the age, one handle or two knobs? A model number would be nice.if you have it handy.
Get back to me and I'll get back to you. Regards, Tom

Hi Tom. Thanks a bunch for your reply. I will attempt to locate the mixing valve today and will give you the info as soon as possible.

Quick "not so" update.
A friend of a friend was over the other day for a get together, and he is a general contractor. Before ripping my wall apart to get to the mixing valve I asked him to take a look at it. He suggested I replace the faucet cartridges first before demo'ing my wall. Does this even make sense? Like I said in my first post, the water is leaking from the spout... if it was a cartridge issue the water would be leaking from the tap, would it not?
Sorry, banker over here! Lol
Again, thanks for your help!

No! Your contractor gave you the same solution that I would have if I had the information that I asked fer. Shut the water off to the valve and open it up. Remove nthe cartridge and check the inlet ports. Now, with the valve still nopen, t5urn on the water to flush out the supply lines and valve body. Reassemble and test. To tell you more I need the brand name and model number. Regards, Tom

Tub Spout Leaks at diverter

I replaced my tub spout which was leaking water when the shower diverter was lifted. The new one leaks just as much. I thought maybe there isn't enough water pressure to seal the diverter. I have another shower with the same spout and it doesn't leak. Could there be a problem somewhere else?
