Look beneath and next to the wall on the spout. Is there a small square hole there? If so you have a chrome over plastic slip on tub spout,(see image) If not then you have a chrome over brass screw on tub spout (see image). Whatever kind you have it need to be replaced. Find out what you have and pick one up at your local big box store. If you have difficulties and need help just click onn back. Good luck, Tom

Inside the control for the water and switching from bath to shower are seals that keep them from doing exactly what yours is doing. You have two options, you have a plumber replace the whole unit OR you have a plumber replace all of the4 seals. You don't mention how old the unit is so there is no way to know if it should just be replaced. Sometimes there can be calcium buildups that make it difficult to clean out and replace the seals.

Tub Spout Leaks at diverter [ 1 Answers ]

I replaced my tub spout which was leaking water when the shower diverter was lifted. The new one leaks just as much. I thought maybe there isn't enough water pressure to seal the diverter. I have another shower with the same spout and it doesn't leak. Could there be a problem somewhere else?
