    Garnished bank account for old debt
    I recently went to use my check card and it was declined when I knew there was money in the account. Upon arrival at my local bank, I was told that my account was negative 13,000 plus dollars! I contacted the number given to me and it is from a repossed vehicle from 1999. My credit report has showed a $0 balance every since this happened, I have even purchased two vehicles since! I was never aware or notified of this debt, never had a chance to disput it or anything and all of a sudden out of the blue every penny in my account is gone; right at the time my rent, car note, car insurance, and every other bill is due. To top it all off, I am a single mom. Of course my question is: Is this legal?

    In Florida, this is not legal. I do not know what state you are in but you should contact legal counsel in your state.
