    Male cat spraying.
I have a 4 year old male cat that has a big spraying problem. He started doing it about a year ago and it just keeps getting worse. He is spraying everything. I find it on my clothes, furniture, bedding, suit cases, wrapping paper, walls, cupboards... He even sprayed my sister once when she was sitting on the floor. I just don't know what to do about it. I mean, I love him a lot but I am getting sick of it! Yes, I have other cats, but I have had other cats since I got him as a kitten. It is getting to the point where I don't even want him in the house anymore. It seems like everyday he is spraying somewhere new. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks!

    Hi, spophmonk21!

Have you ever had him neutered? In my lifetime of experience with having cats, it's always been the case that doing that solves the problem. However, that doesn't mean that there couldn't be some other kind of problem going on.

    Thanks!

He needs to have a urinalysis done first to rule out an infection-easiest to fix! If that comes back negative, there are behavioral drugs to try-usually have to keep them on them for a period of 6 months then taper off-such as Prozac for humans. A very, VERY small percentage of cats don't respond to treatment-I've seen one in my 13 year clinic career. Plan for him to stay at the vet for a day to collect the specimen and good luck!
