Landlord trying to Screw me out of my Deposit
I rent an old house, have lived there for a total of 8 years, 6 yrs on my mother's lease and now 1 year on a signed lease, lease expired after 1 year and never renewed it. My landlord says he just carried it over, but dates do not match up my last year there. Now I am moving out, year up Dec 31 of this year. The landlord is now blaming me for all of the damaged items that happened under my mothers lease, things he never saw upon final walk through. He is making me repair these items or take them off my deposit. Also, siding on house was damaged by lawn mowing company, stones or sharp objects made holes in cheap, old, crispy siding. He is saying I took a hammer to it and destroyed it. I never saw it because I have never been on that side of house. I work all the time and don't have time to deal with lawn. That is why I hire a lawn service. This house was built in the 1940's.
In the 8 years we have lived in this house he has never done a thing. We had to replace the stove, old one didn't work, we replaced the kitchen sink because old one had hole in bottom of it, old sink fell off wall in bathroom, we replaced it with new cabinet and sink. We had to replace old light fixture in kitchen with new fluorescent one, new light in bath. Repaired the air conditioning unit all of this when he was living up in North Carolina and we could not reach him by phone. He has never paid for any of it. He has never painted the place, we did it because it became so dirty. Now he wants to keep my deposit to replace the siding that I did not damage and for all other repairs. The house is spotless, cleaner than when I moved in. Can he legally do this to me?

I would go take dated pictures of the siding and take him to court.
If the Judge sees there is no damage to the siding then they should see he is trying to pull something.
If you have receipts for repairs you did take them too.
Take anything that you think can prove your case.
