    Almost but not perfect
    Okay so I'm no mechanic and I will be the first to admit that but I am a big do it "yourselfer" that being said I posted a topic about not being able to get my truck started after changing the distributor cap wires and plugs.. it runs and what I thought was good but someone at my local auto shot said it was missing he couldn't tell by revving it but by feeling the block, when I told that to a find of mine he said the plugs where in the right position (thats a question if my car is running to what I seem to be fine the plugs must be in the right position..? ) but that I have a miss and to take eatch wire off while its running and see if it runs worse or the same and diagnose the problem from there such as lose plug or dirt in plug...


    Sorry long story for first question if after changing my wires distributor and rotor I couldn't get it to fire by using the original starting position in the distributor but I changed it and it started running sounded great but I was told a miss do you think I could still have the wires all mixed up?? If so I'm going to find the tdc and go from there but I really don't want to if I don't have to any answer would be grateful.

    This happened to me once when I had an old Cordoba. I loved that car. Big, extremely roomy engine compartment to work on, etc. Anyway, my mechanic changed the plug wires and put a wire on the wrong plug. The car ran horrible from the get go. You could tell that something was wrong. He then had to get out the wiring diagram for the plug wires and found that he had to change #1 with #6 or something like that. The car ran smooth and great after that. Yes, it really makes a difference if wired up wrong with the plug wires. BUT you woud know from the performance of the car as it would idle extremely rough and not accelerate properly, not just by placing your hand on the engine block. Just to be on the safe side, get out the plug wiring diagram and see if you wired them correctly. My guess is you did and your friend is wrong.

    Go back a see if each plug is gaped correctly.

    ! Check to make sure the plugs are in right and gapped correctly. They usually come pre-gapped but you should double check.
    2.Get the firing order and make sure the wires are on in the right position. This is why you should only do one wire at a time when you change them!
    3. Make sure the wire boots are "seated" properly on both ends. (dist and spark plug)
    You can tell if it's "missing" by just listening to it.
    When it's running, you can check for a miss on each cylinder by pulling each wire one by one. There SHOULD be a change... it should run really rough. If there isn't a change, it means the spark plug might be in wrong, defective, or there is a bad cylinder.

    These are all just ideas of things to try. I am not a certified mechanic but I hope it helps. Let us know what you find out?
