    Chihuahua Floppy Ears
    Hi there,

I have a strange question. My chihuahua, Susan, has been acting normally lately; except for one thing. Her ears don't stand straight up anymore. It's like when she was a baby and she had the floppy baby ears, that's how they are now. Its been this way for about 4 days. What's going on? Is this normal? By the way, she is almost 2 years old.

    Hey CM!

I have heard when this happens in some breeds, they could be lacking calcium in their diet. It could be just her age and that the cartilage has broken down. Does she have a rash or irritation on her ears or around her eyes or face? If she does, I would get Susan into the vet for a check. It could be a symptom of something else going on.

Wish I could help you more! :)

I know that her diet isn't the issue otherwise this would have happened long ago. Her diet hasn't changed, and she is eating vet approved food.

Hmmm... Hope someone can come along with more insight.

She may have ear mites that need to be cleaned out or a double ear infection.Ear mites look like dirt in the ear but you can find home remedies for cleaning them on line. However to be safe I would call a vet.
    Good luck

I've checked for ear mites, there are none.

Do you by chance have another dog or a small child that might frequently tug at the dogs ears?

I have a 11 month old Chihuahua, and his ears go floppy sometimes too. However, it is usually when he is sleepy/just waking up/or just feeling a little under the weather is when it happens. I am more thinking that your cutie just has a small cold. Remember, dogs can only tell us things by their actions. We just need to look for clues/signs to see what they are really trying to tell us. Susan will be just fine with a little love... besides, I think it is the cutest thing when Marley's ears go floppy! When she starts feeling better they will perk up like no tomorrow!:D

You were right, she had the sniffles. A day in bed cuddling and some doggy treats and she was a happy camper... Those little ears stood at attention all day. Thanks for the help guys!
