    Swelling in rists
Hi I'm emma I'm 25 years of age and my question is... I have had swelling in both my rists for about 6 months now.I have trouble holding things for a long time and they ache at night leaving me with sleepless nights... I have been told it could be carpel tunnel... what do you think?

Are you doing activities that work out your forearms. This is what causes carpal tunnel.

You should go to a doctor. If this is the issue, if left untreated you may never be able to use a computer again or do other things that you could do before.

Here is a link to the symptoms and causes.

If your wrists are swelling that is not a good sign. I had carpal tunnel several years ago in both wrists from doing too much transcription and typing too much. I type 80 WPM and would type at least 8 hours a day sometimes straight. I did that for years and years. No wonder my wrists finally rebelled. My doctor told me the best thing that I could do was to stop typing for at least a year. Long story, but I stopped typing for about 2 years and both wrists got much better. Only nonuse of your wrists and total rest are really the answer. I'm not a doctor person and hate to go to them and don't have any insurance anyway so I just "make do" and rest my wrists if they hurt now. I don't keep pushing myself. Fortunately I have a job now where I don't do much typing so that has helped keep the symptoms away.

    I know how that goes.

I am a certified shorthand reporter (court reporter, depo reporter).

Haven't had any problems yet. I type 200 words a minute on the steno machine. It has only been four years. I have a long way ahead of me.

I hear now that there is a simple laser surgery now that can take care of carpal tunnel. It is probably expensive though.
