    Length of wage garnishment
    Hello,

A garnishment has been placed on my wages. No problem, I would have paid the debt without all the hassle, but at the time I had no income.

Court order (continuing judgment) seems standard. There is one line that I have an issue with in the judgment order.

"Deductions shall continue until garnishee is notified by plaintiff that no further amounts are due."

    Judgment amount was $4,692.
So far I have paid $5,468.

I called the law office but they are stalling and will not tell me how much they intend to extract above the owed amount. Of course the judgment includes interest and costs.
How can I make them give me this information?

My next step is a certified letter to them.

Thanks in advance for any directions.

Is interest ongoing - until the debt is paid - or was it fixed by the Order? Different States handle these Judgments in different ways. It's possible you paid the Judgment as ordered and now you are paying interest from the date of the Order until now.

Otherwise, yes, send a letter, return receipt, to the law firm, copy to your employer.

With proof of payment make a motion in court ( may need an attorney) for it to stop. I would be in court to review the court records on this.

[QUOTE=bodypilot agrees: I stated interest and costs were included in c/oQUOTE]

Does it state interest until PAID or interest until the date of the Judgment and then ongoing?

Here is the entire subject line in question.

    Line 5 of judgment order:

    5. Deductions shall continue and shall be mailed to counsel for plaintiff monthly until such time as garnishee shall be notified by counsel for plaintiff that no further amounts are due pursuant to the final judgment entered herein, said judgment being in the amount of $4,692.10 plus interest and costs.

Hence my original question, I can't get a response from plaintiff's atty (which in this case is the plaintiff. They bought the paper, pennies on the dollar I am sure)

    By the way, Florida :)

    Thanks for any insight.
