It is really important that he gets as much sleep as possible, that's really the only thing that eventually helps. I got mono when I was 20 years old and carried on with my usual activities until I ended up in the hospital for 10 days so weak that I couldn't even get up to use the restroom.

There are no known causes, and rest is pretty much the best thing. If he's having fever + bodyaches, some acetaminophen will help. If he also has strep throat, penicillin or another antibiotic will help that as well. However, as far as mono itself, plenty of bedrest is the only thing left.
Oh, and keep him away from other people.
Best.

I had mono every year from the time I was about 12 until I was in my late 20's so I guess you could say I'm an expert(?) The best thing is rest in bed. I read so many books and watched so much TV as a kid I just had to get used to the idea. Plenty of fluids and good, nourishing food is a must also. It's hard to keep a kid in bed, I know, but you'll just have to keep him quiet as long as you humanly can until he gets better. It was no fun for me to miss school and have to make it up.

You sure it was mono? From everything I've ever heard, mono is a one time thing. I could be wrong.
Anyway - make sure he takes it easy. I believe he is at greater risk to spleen injury while sick.

Mono can not be gotten over and over. The disease itself creates the immunity. Also, it is highly, highly unlikely to contract mono after the age of 25. Mono is cause by the Epstien Barr virous which, post puberty, casuses Epstein Barr disease rather than mono.
