    Older dog won't eat
She is nearly 13. Has visited the vet had extensive blood & urine work. Currently battling a UTI was on baytrol now on cipro. She has always been a 1 brand dry dog food eater. Since 6/08 (this is 11/08) she has gone from 53 lbs to 44 lbs. No reasonable explanation. We switched her to Hill's KD - ate it for a day. This is her MO - she will eat anything once. Cooked hamburger - once, scrambled eggs once. Have tried mixing in gravy. Will do anything to help her.

Oh gosh! Has the vet not come up with anything else other than her UTI? Maybe she has lost her appetite because of the Cipro? Why did the vet change from Baytrol?

Have you tried mixing boiled chicken, or even chicken livers, cut up with a bit of her Hills diet? Do you give it to her in small amounts several times a day?

I don't know what to recommend, but I couldn't by-pass your question. You might try feeding her baby food in syringe, just to get some nutrition into her system.

Have you ever heard of Goji Juice?
FreeLife Live It! : GoChi, Chi3 Energy, Daily Edge I have given my dog this for different problems. It is expensive (about $50 for a 1 litre bottle) but I've heard many stories about how it helps dogs. Especially seniors. You can put a capful into their water dish once or twice a day. That might help some.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Good luck to you and your fur babe. :)

Thanks Starbuck8 - chicken livers are a great option - she'll have them tonight! We currently feed her several times a day. She is getting plenty of liquids. Again thanks for the suggestion:)

You're very welcome! :) I know what it feels like to feel helpless when your fur babe can't tell you she needs you to do. Especially when they get up there in age. Just this morning, I am trying out a new groomer for my little Niki. They come and actually pick up your pet and bring them back afterwards. I just melted when her big brown eyes looked at me wondering why I was handing her off to a stranger. I'm sure she'll be all perty and happy when she gets home though! :D Good luck with the chicken livers! Hope your dog likes them!
