    91 honda civic starting trouble
I'm having trouble figuring out what is wrong with my car.

There are times when the car will start and times when it won't start. When it won't start the engine does not turn over. The lights in the dashboard are lit well. However, whenever I apply current using a battery charger (200amp) it starts right up. I'm also able to start it by pushing it. I've already taken both the battery and starter to autozone to be tested and they say that they're fine.

I wonder if something could be off with the alternator. I think I might also have some electrical issues. For example, whenever I am driving at night and have the headlights turned on and I press the brakes- the headlights dim for that brief moment when I apply the brakes. During that same time the radio cuts off for a fraction of a second.

Additional information: the alternator, starter, and battery have all been changed less than a year ago using remanufactured parts. They were changed because I was having the same problem I am currently having where the car does not crank.

    Any help would be appreciated.

. Clean battery terminals and cables. While you have the negative battery cable off, clean cables and connectors going to the alternator and starter motor. Apply dielectric compound to connections.

. Check the battery again. My concern is that your 200 amp charger is damaging the battery. I would only use a 6 amp charger. Remove the battery from the car, before charging--otherwise, damage to the ECM, alternator, and other components can result.

If the problem continues, I would replace the alternator.
