    Compession or no compression?
    My mom has a 2000 kia sophia
    That she blew a belt on and that led to the alternator not working and the water pump not working
    The lights on the dash started dimming and acting up and then it got hot
    When the pulled off the road the car died and would not start
    I went and looked at it and checked it over for a blown head or gasket
    Checked for spark had it
    Checked timing belt it looked OK
    Replaced belt and went to start it again and it is cranking over (at least it looks like it) I can look in the oil cap and see the valves moving
    It sounds funny like it has no compression it just has a winding sound
    But everything looks OK I can't figure out what happened or what is wrong
    Open for ideas?

    Remove all spark plugs, attach a compression gauge, and check compression for each cylinder. Possible warped head and/or valve damage--if so, repairs could run around $2,500.

    I don't know exactly what they should be for your car; however, for Civics, standard compression is 184 psi, minimum compression is 135 psi, and maximum variation between cylinders is 28 psi. I wouldn't expect the numbers would vary significantly for your KIA.
