OLD Carrier heater. Replace of fix?
    Hello!

I have a Carrier 58G01002A gas furnace in the basement. PG&E came out and said that the Limit Switch is out and needs replacing. A friend was by and said some of the ducting was patched with an asbestos material.

Should I fix the limit switch and ducting and continue using the system, or should it be replaced completely?

If I should replace the limit switch, can anyone give me some direction on the complexity of the job? I also don't have the part no. because I currently have a tenant in the house, its not open to me and she said she doesn't have the part anymore..

    Thanks!

Limit switch is very easy to change, and fairly cheap to purchase. However,if your furnace is so old that you are worried about dumping any money at all into it (worrying about the next problem that will arise). I would seriously look into updating your system. You will get much higher efficiency and not have to worry about the furnace going out at 2.00 Am on a Sunday morning when its 20 below(in theory, even knew furnaces break down from time to time, but at least you will have a warranty, and the dealer you buy your furnace from will most likely have replacement parts on hand, instead of having to order them and maybe having to wait a few days before getting back in heat).
Let us know what you decide, and we will try to help, whether it be fixing old furnace, or deciding on what brand of new furnace to purchase. Good luck, and take care.

Any ideas about how to change it... once I look at it I might be more clear. Because its in the basement of a tenant and she has two german shepards... I can't get in to take a look.

I will wing it if there are no suggestions. Thanks.
