    Blocked stand-pipe?
Yesterday I had a repairman come round to have a look at my washing/drying-machine because the last time it was used it filled up with water and was unable to drain.

He had a look at it expecting a blockage, and 'unplugged' the pipe leading into the standpipe, and upon doing this it was able to drain.

Therefore he concluded that there is probably no fault with the washing machine and that the stand-pipe must have a minor blockage. He recommended that I pour some 'mr muscle' or bleach down the stand-pipe and then plug the machine back in and see what happens.

Is this good advice to follow? I am reluctant to do this because the property is rented and I do not want to make things worse by pouring the wrong thing down the pipe!!!

Any advice on this matter would be appreciated!!

I'm a little confused, At first I thought the stand pipe was backing up, but that'sn notcorrect is it? (Or is it?) From what you say it wash the washer hose that was plugged and not the standpipe

(And here we are back at the srand pipe.) If the plumber didn't snake the standpipe, trap and drain he failed to complete the service call. You have no choice now but to cycle the washer and see if the standpipe overflows. If it does then call the plumber back to complete what he started. Good luck, Tom
