I dyed my hair with a light golden brown hair colour and it has turned out a lot darker than I wanted it! Any ideas of how I can lighten it?

Nothing you can do but wait, or go to your salon and get it done there.
Do not use boxed dye - it's the devil.

Hi Kathryn

Just to put your mind at ease a little all dye will fade even permanent.
I recently dyed my hair from a very light golden brown (it didn't suit me I have cool skin tone) to a Copper Brown.
When I washed it out I was so dissapointed as it was so dark but I was not going to strip or bleach it as I did that about 2 months ago and it is still a little damaged.
I also sought advice from this site and everyone said... just wait it will fade.
I know its hard as you are unhappy with the colour but if you give it 2 weeks I swear you will be surprised at the difference.
In the mean time make sure you wash your hair regularly with hot water as this will speed up the fading process.
In the future if you dye your hair at home always choose a colour that is a shade or even two shades lighter than what you want, silly I know but it works.
Be patient hun.

Don't wash with hot water, it opens the follicle up and shampoo will stay in her hair - not good at all. And no one should really dye their hair at home to begin with. :-\ But I do agree with the fact that all you can do is wait.

Next time, DO NOT dye your own hair with boxed dye. There are too many chemicals that are going to damage your hair to a point of no return. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, get it done in a salon. It may be "pricey" but it'll be completely worth it in the end...

Washing your hair with hot water is the best way to remove dirt and grease... yes it opens the folicles but you simply rinse with cold water afterwards and that closes them.

There are a few ways. None of them are going to put a smile on your face.

One is the let it fade away choice. That takes a pretty long time. But it doesn't damage your hair at all, it just leaves grotesque looking roots.

Another is shave it off. But I don't recommend it. I wouldn't want to be bald either.
