    Old shower pan installation
About a year ago I removed the shower pan from my bathroom upstairs and replaced it with a new one. The gasket around the drain pipe was rubber that I had to drill through a number of times in order to remove . It appeared to have been something that was originally a liquid poured in and then solidified. Could that be the case. I want to use it in the bathroom I am installing in the basement and it doesn't accommodate the normal attachment that is put on the drain beneath the pan and then tightened from the top to seal the drain around the pan. Am I correct in thinking that this type of pan had liquid rubber of some type and is it something I can still find?

    Hi Mickey, Welcome back.

Are you referring to a Compatite Blue Seal Membrane Shower Pan or a plastic/fiberglass shower base?
" It appeared to have been something that was originally a liquid poured in and then solidified."
Was this under the lip of the drain?
Before we go much farther I have to know what you're attempting to install. The old pan? A new one? Let me know what you're up to. Cheers, Tom
PS. When you answer this I'm going to merge your two threads. Makes it easier to keep track. T.

    Tom,
I can't identify the type of old shower base I have. I want to use it in the new shower in the basement but the problem of sealing the area around the drain pipe will be what decides that.
The drain pipe I installed in the basement floor will protrude through the shower pan drain opening and will be level with the shower pan floor. There is at least an inch of space around the drain pipe that has to be sealed and as I said before, it appeared to be a very hard rubber substance when it was in my upstairs shower. It didn't appear to me to be something that could have been slipped down around the pipe. It filled this void around the drain pipe and up to the lip of the pipe, ensuring that the water went down the drain. Sorry I can't be of any more help in identifying this old shower pan.

    Hey Mickey,

If the old drain's still in place perhaps it can be removed and a WingTite, (see image) drain installed. Check out the installation at; http://www.plumbrite.com/?page=insta...38fe092177d93d
Let me know what you think. Tom
