Look for "synchromesh manual transmission fluid" (MTF) in your local store. I don't recommend using 10W-30 engine oil in the manual transmission of Hondas. Since the early-to-mid 1990s, most ZDDP has been removed from engine oils. Accordingly, the soft yellow metals in the synchros can be affected and cause shifting problems. It's best to use an approved manual transmission fluid. I use Amsoil Synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (5W-30) in my 1993 Civic DX. It definitely improves gas mileage and shifting, particularly in winter. PepBoys carries Pennzoil MTF, if you want to buy a more common locally available product. Here's information on the Pennzoil product:

    Products - Synchromesh Fluid

Some fluids are more "notchy" than others. You may want to check recommendations at BOBISTHEOILGUY.COM, if you don't care for the Pennzoil product or you don't want to buy Genuine Honda MTF.

Remember to drain the fluid, after the engine and transmission are hot--you get a much faster and more complete drain. Use a long-neck funnel to refill the transmission--there's no need to use a pump.
