    10 week old sheltie whines
I have a 10 week old female sheltie named Josie. We also have another sheltie, a 10 year old female. Our first dog was a very easy puppy in every way and has been an extremely gentle, loving adult. I should have known better, but I was expecting our new puppy to be similar, but she couldn't be more different. She's very active, wants my attention and company constantly. And whines when I have to confine her during the day. I don't work so I play with her and take care of her needs frequently, but in order to get anything done I have to crate her or confine her to small areas at times. We've had her since she was 6 1/2 weeks old and I thought this would get better over time, but it hasn't. She sleeps all night and does take naps during the day, but this whining is getting to me. Any advice?

Sounds like, crying like a baby for attention; wants her mom. So you have to use tough love the same way with human babies to teach them to adapt. Structure, structure and more structure and discipline and the only difference is, little puppies grow up really fast learning.

You other dog probably had a different level of, say intelligence, your new baby knows from 'osmosis' there is already competition. It will sort out eventually, you just have to be patient. Not all new puppies are alike.

Patience is the key with dogs. Sit back for a time and observe her interactions with family members and your other pup.

Not sure if this is a working method, but my puppy used to cry for HOURS when I left her in her crate. Then she started acting out... ripping wallpaper and whatnot, and was told she has separation anxiety. I gave her one of my gym shirts... with my smell on it... didn't wash it, and she immediately took to it... and just sat around it for hours.
