    Sister bi-polar
I really don't know where to begin, because I have been going through these issues for so long. My sister suffers from bi-polar, and is a full blown alcoholic. She lives with my mother and her daughter. They live in fear of her hurting herself and them. She is danger to herself and others and I don't think my mother can handle her any longer. Is there a way that she would be court ordered to a hospital and not be able to leave. She has done many rehabs, but they don't get to the core of her mental problems and thirty days is not enough time for the years and years of abuse she has done to herself to get healthy. She needs help now before she tries to kill herself.

Generally the answer is no but your mother could see if there is ways to get her out of the house and keep the daughter. She may have to go through Child Protective Services and explain the mother is a danger and she would like to keep the child as opposed to it going to a foster home and then evict the daughter and possibly get a restraining order against her but it would have to all be done legally.

If she drives when she has been drinking, when she leaves the house, call the police and report her position so the police will arrest her for DUI.

Often when you are arrested for DUI you are out in a matter of a few hours to a few days and you get a fine and take classes, but it would establish a start of being unfit.
