    Hi Alice:

    Copper metal and therefore copper tubing does indeed have "inherent antibacterial properties"... it is used in many applications for exactly that reason.

    It is the anti-bacterial nature of copper that makes it a great material for use as a water supply. The newer thermoplastic pipe manufacturers (pex pipes) are working to create antibacterial linings to mimic the properties of copper.
