Hi I have a dog that will bury her bones when I give them to her. But the thing is she doesn't burry them in the ground she does it in my closets and blankets. Is that normal? How can I get her to stop?

I had a dog that did the same thing. While I considered her exceptional, the burying treats in strange places wasn't that unusual (she liked the cover on the couch since the space behind the cushion was a good start <G>). It might be a female 'saving for rainy day' thing. Does she go back and look for them afterwards? Is she upset when you've moved them? If there's not a health issue involved (like worrying about flies if there's too much meat left on the bone) why stop her?

BTW - bones aren't an especially good treat for dogs, esp ones that break easily into long pieces like ribs. Large &/or sharp pieces may puncture stomach or intestines.

My dogs do the same thing. They are every where. I just live with it. They do know the phrase "no bones on the bed". They also know not to bring bones into the house that still have meat on them. Mine do however eventually eat them completely but there have been times when I have had up to 10 floating around and I just toss some out when it gets like that.

Wow, do I disagree with the 'reddie' you gave me. Chicken bones are among the worst for dogs and cats because they splinter so badly. Uncooked bones may not splinter as badly but chk and ribs still do even raw.

Lordy Ms Willliams where do you get your facts from?? Chicken bones will KILL A DOG!! Or it will cost you $2000 dollars at the vet trying to get the bones out safetly.. that is if your dog will survive long enough to get to the vet

Look up raw dog food diets. Also check out raw pet foods such as primal pet. One of the products they package is turkey necks and poultry parts. I feed my dogs raw chicken backs. They go through 40lbs a month. Only with in the last 65 to 70 years has the commercial market designed a pet food product to sell to consumers. What did dogs eat before that? They ate what they were given or hunted. Raw bones are excellent for a dogs diet. Raw is by far the best you can do for your dog. Below is some info I quickly dug up. I am amazed by you quickness to judge and inability to research on the internet. My dogs have lived for 4 years so far and their vets support their raw diet.

Chicken backs don't splinter. I'm talking about things like leg bones which will definitely splinter into long sharp pieces. Dogs aren't known for their attentiveness to chewing. They habitually bite of a chunk and only chew until it's small enough to swallow. While cats are a bit better about chewing, I still refrain from giving them chicken leg bones.

I do sometimes feed them wings and legs. In my experience and people I know who feed raw, there have never been issues of choking or other medical issues. I think I will post this raw chicken bone thing seems like lots of people would have all kinds of in put.
