    Basement backup
We just bought this house 2 mo ago. My daughter was cleaning the basement and some of
The kitty litter was swept down the floor drain. My husband snaked it but can't seem to get
It to drain. Now the lower basement is backed up with water and sewage. What could we use
To break up the kitty litter?

    Rent a sewer machine,(see image)from your local lRent-A-Tool place.
If you can locate the house cleanout open it up. If it's full of water snake from the cleanout. Otherwise snake from a bathroom roof vent. Put out enough cable to reach the base and 20 feet more. Good luck, Tom

Tom nailed this one. Kitty litter turns back into clay when it gets soaked. Clay is pretty tough to break loose in a trap with out a snake. Picture in your mind where the clog is in the main drain, it is not near where the litter entered the line if you are getting a back up and sewage.

I have a problem with sewer backup in the basement when there is a heavy downpour. A waterproofing company installed pvc pipes in the basement and a pump but that only takes care of ground water if any, that comes in the basement. I paid $4500 for that job which I see now was a waste. The main...

My house was built in the 50's. I have a septic. The toilet is the only thing that runs into the septic. My sinks, tub and washer all run into a drain that goes under the basement floor. Every time someone takes a shower, washes a load of clothes or does dishes, the drain in the middle of the...

Hello, Our house in Wisconsin was built in the late 20's and does not have drain tile or a sump pump. After most large rainfalls we get water coming up from cracks in the floor. We will probably be putting in tiles and a pump because that alone is a huge pain. After this last large...
