Is this caused by a bad picture tube ?
I have a 15 year old RCA , Home Theater television, model G27750WK which has never given me a minutes trouble. A few weeks ago the screen started to twitch at times. Last night the screen went black except for a vertical colored stripe down the middle of the screen . Has my picture tube gone out? I still have sound. If it is the picture tube, would I be better off buying a new TV? How much does a picture tube cost? (The serial # is 336350272)

May just be a Vertical Output transistor. Call a local shop and see what their response is,
Some places sell more than they repair?

But with the switch to Digital TV in 2009, consider upgrading.
Vertical output transistor is a very good possibility.

I'm already using satellite so do I have to worry about the switch?

No, a good analog TV is not and will not be obsolete Feb 09. Don't scrap because of 1 part, scrap because no competent repair facility is available. New TV's are light, shallower.
Satellite and Cable boxes do not require a digital TV, Don't worry.

I contacted a repairman today and he thought, as you did ,that it is that transistor you mentioned. It's at his shop now. My son also told me that I was fine with the digital thing. Thanks again.

TV Picture Tube
[ 1 Answers ]
Hello:
We have a Sony Trinitron, <the big clunker> 32 inch. Recently, the picture goes black, sound is still perfect & if you shut the TV off & back on, the picture comes back <not all that fast but eventually>. We seem to think it's about 10 yr.'s old.
Does anyone have a clue??
Thank...
Picture tube problem with Trinitron
[ 3 Answers ]
I have a Sony Trinitron Color TV - Model no. KV-8AD11
The picture tube kept getting smaller and smaller until now it is just a single line. Occasionally (or if I tap the top robustly) it will expand back to normal. Any ideas?
