The name our italian puppy game!
Okay, it's time to have some fun.

As some of you know, I have an english cocker spaniel puppy. He's just under three months old. Now that I have a dog, I want to choose a great name that really suits him. I decided that it would be important to really get to know him before picking out the name he'll use forever. I went through every single name in my baby name book - twice. I have gone through every single italian name in existence. And I made lists upon lists of other names I thought could work.

Here are some details. He's gold colored, very smart, and very active. He has slightly saggy eyes. And he belongs to me and my significant other, which means that the name has to pass the test with him, too. Before we got our pooch, we finally settled on a temporary, but full name: Mr. Charlie Sugar, using "Sugar" as his call name. Since show dogs have long (and often silly) names, I think we can get away with a long name, at least officially.

Here's where we are now. For whatever stupid reasons they have, my sister and my father trashed the name "charlie." (you may be asking yourself what kind of person would do that, and I'm wondering that myself! :)) well, I have tried and tried to pretend I didn't hear what they said, but every time I go to say his name, I feel bad.

So, since he's still so young, I feel like I can still get away with changing it. Everyone in the neighborhood (maybe 100 people) knows him as Sugar. But I have decided that I can't stand not giving him a "human" name, even if we do have to keep using "Sugar." my boyfriend picked out "Sugar," and I'm not going to be able to change it. But we have decided that it will work just fine if "Sugar" is his last name, and then I can pick a human name for his first name.

so if you're up for this little challenge, i would LOVE to hear what you think. since we live in italy and his last name is already in english, it would be ideal if our pup's name could be italian. so, the name Sugar has to be in there somewhere, and he needs a human name, too. the thing is that my favorite names maybe sound silly with "sugar."

My top pick today is "Ulysse," which is the italian form of Ulysses.

    Other picks are:
    Cesare (italian for caesar)
    Giorgio

    The maybe pile:
    Leonardo
    Omero (italian for homer)
    Poppy
    Lulu
    Arrow

Names to which my significant other has said no:
    Picasso
    Dante
    Darwin
    Midas
    Valentino
    Sammy
    Jack
    Henry
    Mozart
    Huck

I'm a big fan of historical heroes, art, literature, poetry, science, mythology, music, design... you get the idea. :)

    Your participation is greatly appreciated!
