    Name of this book?
I read a book in 4th or 5th grade, and I remember parts of it, but I don't remember the name.

I remember that the main character is a girl, and she lives with her father, brother and stepmother. I also remember that she is some sort of magical being , and when she uses magic, unknowingly, she says it smells like burnt sugar. There was also something about a tree, and a portal opens on a certain day that might be Halloween, and she goes inside and finds her mother.

That's all I remember, and if someone can make sense of my babbles, please tell me the name of this book!

    Thank you!

I think I may have read it. Are there wolves in it as well? And these power things that look like candy wrappers to other people, but to the girl they look like golden sparkly things? Now I'm trying to remember what that book is called as well...

OK, I am so frustrated! I had this book when I was in the 5th grade in the 80's, I'd say it was around 1985 or 1986. Anyway, I loved this book and I lost it when I was a kid and I would give ANYTHING to find it again! I got the book from the Weekly Reader book order in school. There was a girl...
