What do you mean by " touch your child support ? ". If you owe a debt they can ask for payments on the debt owed and ALL money you have coming in can be considered in the debt. They can't directly attach the money by intercept but it can be included in the pool of money you have.

Once in the bank they can attach the money, But what debts were you left with, was your hame on the debts, was there an estate issue.
Unless you are in a community property state the spouse is not always responsible for debts just in the others name. Debt collectors will normally lie to you about this to get you to pay

lauuri disagrees: I talked to an atty today child support is totally judgement proof--as is ss except in rare cases the feds can levy ss to pay child support etc

I believe if you read what I had writtien I had said they couldn't directly get a judgement angainst your child support. ( see above )

What you need to ask the lawyer is if your money is considered as a pool or as separate funds ( non - comingled ). Example.. You have $500 for child support and a job that pays $500 and your SSI benefit is $1,000 then the monthly total is $2,000. So the question is how much is considered " income " for the purpose of debt collection. Is it just the $500 from a job or is it the whole $2,000. IMO the entire $2,000 is under the umbrella of personal income.
