Still not working -outlets and switch
I have two electrical outlets and a light switch that controls a ceiling fan with light (with pull switches on the fan) that do not work. I have replaced all three and still no power. The other three outlets and closet light in the same room work.

Could the old ceiling fan be causing the problem or is it bad wiring? At one time these connections worked sporadically but not now. The two outlets were wired through holes in the receptacles instead of screwed on. I cut the ends off the wires to make fresh connections and screwed them on. I also took a light switch from the closet that I knew was OK and connected it to the faulty switch but it still didn't work.

What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

    Thanks for any help!

My money would be on bad wiring.
Do you enough of electric wiring to check that yourself?

Go to the other receptacles on that circuit and do the same thing. I know, they work. There is probably a poor connection on the last one that works, which feeds the ones that do not work.

If all the items are not working, the ceiling fan could not cause that. It is a wiring issue.

Check and see if there is 120v at the outlets and fan, if so, it is a neutral issue.

Trace the wiring back to where all three items connect.

A lot of the older houses we work on have a problem with pests (squirrels and rats) that like to chew on the wires leading to problems.
