I need to take out the old microwave and replace it. It is hard to do? I have a ge style now and am going to replace it with a magic chef. Do I need to by a new bracket kit?

You won't need a new bracket kit unless your new microwave is a different size. Take measurements.

Do I still need to use a 1.6 cu. ft. microwave that is in there now? My daughter and I are going to replace it today before my dad comes home

First, if you have a follow-up question please add an answer in the original thread. Don't start a new question. I've merged the two threads for you.

Second, You refer to "taking out" the old microsowave. Taking it out from what? Is it built into a cabinet or is it part of a stove? You may not be able to just take it out depending on where it is. So you are leaving out essential info.

Ok, so its not part of a overhead stove unit. In that case, you may have to remove not only the oven, but the brackets as well then replace it with a unit designed to go under the cabinet which will probably come with its own bracket. I'm not sure if those brackets are standardized. A decent applicance store will be able to tell you that.

And yes you posted correctly
