Bankruptcy & Relocating to Toronto, Canada
My husband and I filed Ch 13 bankruptcy which will be discharged in May, 2009. We will be relocating to Toronto, Canada after the discharge of our Ch 13 bankruptcy. Will we be able to find a place to rent? How strict is the Canadian government on US bankruptcies? Could this affect obtaining dual-citizenship? Please advise with any information.

I will not be working. My husband will be working and sponsored by his company. The area may possibly be Markham. We have yet to make the fact-finding trip to get acquainted with the areas.

Any suggestions on good sites to visit to find out more about utilities, renting, insurance, etc... I know his company will provide a-lot of assistance but I also like to do some research on my own.

How are you both working here when you move Canada. Are you being sponsored to work legally for both of you?
Finding rental property quickly all depends on where you are re-locating to. If in the Toronto area you should come up here fist to scout around but I would recommend any of the small towns around the Greater Toronto Area. I don't think your ch.l3 will effect you being here. That is your own business.

Now as for dual citizenship, that would be difficult if you are US citizens. I don't know what your circumstances are so cannot give you a definitive answer on citizenship.

As far as citizenship goes I could answer but what is your status in Canada? Are you legal canadian residents at this time?

US bankruptcy status not reported by Canadian CB. Canadian bankruptcy not reported by US Credit bureau. Its like you were 18 and just starting. You have to rebuild your credit based on your new circumstances.
