I am starting a remodel and planned to go to an island from a peninsula bar. Looked as if the plumbing was from the floor and the water lines are. Just opened the wall and the drain line runs back into a wall that I was going to remove. Here is the full deal. One wall I was going to remove I thought only had the vent pipe and I was going to cap it at the floor and use a studer under the new island sink. Now I see that the drain and electric run from the wall so I should be able to break up the floor and drop the drain line into the slab and run a chase for the electric. Cap the vent pipe and use a studor. Correct? Where can I find a step by step for something like this? Also it is copper and cast iron, can I transition to PVC somehow?

Hi Deacon:

Basically, an island sink waste/vent is piped as in the picture below (complicated for sure). The sink drain is above the cleanout.

If allowed in your area.. a studor vent would also work and is a lot less work... but I doubt code allows in your area... ;) Check with local codes enforcement if you dare!! If need to pipe as presented, let me know so I can explain that pic. In detail.

Otherwise, can make the transition from 2" cast iron to 2"pvc pipe using the appropriate transition Mission style (or proflex) shielded clamps in pic. Below.

If underground piping the non-shielded, two-band clamp clamp (see 3rd pic.)should work well, also... but again is dependent on codes in your area.

Both of these clamps are sold at all home supply stores.

You want a full size 2" cleanout (see pic. #4) just as you come out of the floor with new pvc pipe. And again, code requires...a 2" long sweep elbow as you come out of the ground (see last pic.). You can also make a 2" long sweep elbow by cementing a 45 into a street 45!
