Contractions aren't any more painful, but back is
Hi I posted a question yesterday about being 3 cm dilated and 60% effaced, etc. I never went to the doctor, because I wanted to wait it out, and I guess I did the right thing because there's still no baby, but the other day at the hospital, they told me to come back when the contractions are more painful, and to take tylenol for pain. Well, last night I took tylenol before bed and ended up still rocking on all fours in bed to relieve the back and pelvic pain... now the pain is really bad in my lower back right on the top of my butt, and my contractions are very tight, but I can still talk and breathe when I'm having one. Is this what back labor feels like? And for the past couple weeks it has hurt down in my pelvis when the baby kicks at like my bone, and now it hurts even lower when he kicks... is there any way to tell if he's any lower than the -2 station he was at before w/o going to the docs, and since I dilated from 0 to 2 over one night and then 2 to 3 over the next night, is it possible that I am even more dilated. I don't want to go to the hospital too early and be sent home again, but I am afraid that by the time I do go to the hospital I'll already be like 8cm or something and I want an epidural... please help I don't know what to do... and to all that didn't read my post yesterday, I am 36weeks and 3 days along... thank you

Are the conx regular? Are they at all painful? How far apart? Is this your first? 2-3 cm dilation is no indication of when the baby will come. I had contx for 3 weeks before my second arrived. They were 5 min for hours at a time but not painful. You'll know when it's the real thing. Good luck!

The contractions have been about every 4 minutes for almost 3 days now, they are painful but not much more than when I was at the hospital, if anythingim really sore from the constant contracting, and this is my 2nd baby, but I was induced last time so I don't know hwat to expect.

I was induced with my first too and the 3 weeks of conx were wearing me out. I knew it was the real thing when they began hurting like menstrual cramps and I felt some pressure at times. I also had some bloody show. It's tough to tell as every delivery is different. Good luck and hopefully the baby will give you a break and you'll carry a few more weeks.

If you show up at 8cm you won't likely need the epidural as you are almost done... nor would it be in your's and baby's best interest if you can avoid it at that time.
You won't really be able to tell where he is at, or if you are anymore dilated, although it is likely that you are. Depending on how far you live from the hospital, you may want to at least get checked, only because each labor can be quite different. I have been with women who were at 8-9 cm, and still waiting for the contractions to get stronger... (the kind of labor everyone would like to sign up for!), I have also been with women whose contractions never got closer than 3-4 minutes apart before baby was born.
Back labor is often very painful in the lower back... your rocking on your hands and knees is a great position. A few other things you might try... walking, and side lunges might get baby to rotate. You can put one foot up on a chair, obviously hold on for support, with your foot pointing to the side, then lunge towards the chair. You can do the same on the floor on your knees... put one knee up with the foot pointing towards the side and lunge sideways. A birth ball can be a tremendous help with back pain... straddle it while holding onto something and rock side to side, or place it against a wall and lean into it with your back, applying counter pressure from the ball, as you rock side to side. Another help is having your partner use counter pressure by pressing the heels of hands on your lower back... off the back bone, upper hip area... it is a steady pressure. This can be done as you lean against the back of a chair, rest on your hands and knees, lie on your side. Also, while lying on your side, partner can rock your hips back and forth. Heat pack, or a rice sock, may feel good on your back too, or even on your lower belly. Most will allow you to rest in a warm bath if your water hasn't broken, which can aid the back too. Hope you don't have to wait much longer!

Thank you so much, I'll definitely try some of these techniques. I just woke up and I feel like today is only going to get worse, so I might end up at the hospital tonight... if its anything like yesterday I definitely won't wait anymore.
