Old Judgement Against me
In 1995 I moved out of an apartment (ontario canada) owing rent.
In 2006 I got a call from a collection agency saying that there was a judgement against me from 1995 and that they are collecting for that.
What is the statute of limitations on such a judgement? I assume they went to the rental tribunal and got the order there.
What are my rights?
The agency has filed it on my credit bureau? Do I have rights to remove it from there?
How long can this go on for, is has been 11 years since I moved out and 13 years total now.
Please help

Also the possibility that they renewed the judgement.

Now if I could only find the length of a Judgment in Ontario - looks like 6 years, 1 renewal but I'm not positive and can't find anything definitive.

Same here however if you make a payment or acknowledge the debt, then the 6-year ticker starts all over again. So the question is throughout this time frame did he ever in fact acknowlege the debt.

Actually Ladies... there are a few things here.
1. if the statute of limitations ran out prior to the collection agency contacting me, would it matter if I acknowledged it or not?
2. I did not outright acknowledge the debt, I have run them around a bit. They scam you when they say "how will you be paying this" or "can we make an arrangement", so far I have only played dumb because I don't think they can collect for that long.
3. They have put this on my credit bureau and I know that anything must be wiped out if no activity for 6 years.
4. I have asked for the judgement order against me (asked yesterday) which they say they are sending to me. So we will see.
I just want to arm myself. I too have done web searching on it and did see something about 10 years, and also what you said about renewing the judgement. I just can't find anything about the limitations. There is a new law about 2 years but it says nothing about judgements and I think rental tribunal judgements are different than civil litigation.
Anyone know anything else... considering all of this... it is messing my credit up a bit.
