Depends if you're hair is strong enough to take the strain of recoloring. I think you have to decide if you want to test it or not. When I was younger, I died my naturally reddish brown hair to black. It was so hideous on me that I couldn't stand to leave it for an hour. With black, I had to remove all color before recoloring which is really tough on hair. Then I colored it a reddish color which I disliked too, waited about 3 hours and decided to go blond. I was worried at the time because the hair dye companies tell you not to do this to your hair, but I did and it came out fine. In fact, this many years later every beautician who does my hair tells me what thick and manageable hair I have. If I'd lost my hair I think it would have been my own fault and the companies would have held no blame because I ignored their directions.

    I wouldn't do this today.

I got highlights in my hair not too long ago, and it looked horrible, the highlights themselves were so brittle.. when I would brush my hair the only color in the hairbrush was blonde.. so 2 days after I got it done I finally gave in and just dyed it dark brown.. it came out just fine and my hair actually isn't breaking off as bad. The only problem I've had is keeping the dark color from fading because the highlights were so bright. But no additional damage to speak of. Just wait a day or so and you should be fine.
