    Kenmore washer won't stop fillup
Recently, the washing machine started overflowing back out the drain pipe. To prevent this, rather than snaking the drain, we wrapped duct tape around the overflow tube to the drain pipe to prevent the water from overflowing. This worked for awhile, but eventually the water started backing up in the machine itself and overflowing the bowl. Now the washer's fill cycle does not stop.

Even if you put it on the lowest load setting, it fills all the way to the top and over the side.

I'm wondering what the problem is with the fill sensor. Could it be shorted out due to the water overflow?

    It's a Kenmore series 80 purchased new in 2004.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Thanks for the information. It definitely might help, but I'm not sure exactly how the hose connection at the back relates to the current problem.

What is happening is that the fill sensor is apparently not working. The washer will continue filling until it overflows the washer!

At first the problem was the drain, but now I'm trying to fix the problem with the fill sensor (not sure if that is the right terminology, but the bottom line is that the washer won't stop filling up! )

Replace the pressure switch. This will solve your problem and cost is about $35.00

    Problem solved!

I took the too cabinet off and noticed that the clear plastic tube that connects to the water level switch was disconnected!! Must have vibrated off during a spin cycle.

The tube trick worked on mine also.. I have a top of the line older kennmore (prob made by whirlpool), took off the cover where the switches, knobs, controls are, looked in the back and the tube was just handing there.. I hooked it back up and used two TIGHT twist ties to hold that sucker on this time..

Tested it with a low level load and it worked great, filled it with clothes and she's washing like it never happened..

Too bad I can't fix my ruined wood floors the same way!!

I have had this overflow problem twice and caused major flood damage both times. I think that this is a design and manufacturing defect. The plastic tube that fits to the control valve should have a clamp to hold it in place. SIMPLE SOLUTION! How do I go about having Kenmore/Sears compensate for damages which have occurred because of their faulty equipment.
