    Revers Osmosis Water Systems
My wife and I would like to find a better alternative to the 5 gallon Ice Mountain water jugs that we use for drinking water. We would like to drink our tap water, but don't trust it. Do reverse osmosis filtration systems really work or is it just a scam? Thanks!

Reverse Osmosis systems work incredibly well, but they're expensive to buy and to maintain and you don't need water of that purity for drinking.

Why don't you trust the tap water? City-supplied tap water in the United States is generally very very safe. If it has a bad taste, then I'd recommend an activated carbon filter (such as those made by Brita).

They work great, cost an arm and need replacement filters twice per year, not your maintenance free idea of how to spend a weekend. Isn't Lombard water from lake Michigan? You can buy a two stage GE water filter at Home Depot for $180 that removes 99% of the 15 worst chemicals and debris. They need a new filter every 6 months too but they are easy, about $50 for the replacement filter. GE SmartWater Dual Stage Drinking Water Filter - GNSV75FWW : AbsoluteHome Here's the best part, the GE can be installed by anyone with onlt two tools, that or a 6 pack and a nice uncle.
