    Can I sue a past emplyer for her employees slandering me.
    I was working at a retirment home and a few of the employees seem to have nothing better to do than make up stuff about me,I went to a job interveiw at another retirment home and found out that 2 employees from tpl applied for the job I was applying for and said a bunch lies that are very damaging in my line of work, can I sue the owner of tpl for not doing anything about her employees slandering me seeings how I told her time and time again about the stuff that was going on,or do I have to go after the people saying the crap.

    No, the employees were not on company time or premises. An employer has no control over what their employees do on their own time.

    If you did not get the job ( but they would have hired you except for the lies) you can sue them for the income loss. The people who said it.

    You will have to prove they said it, and prove that was the reason you did not get the job.

    If you did not get the job and can get a statement from the potential employer that you didn't get it because of what was said - sure, you can file a lawsuit. These suits are expensive and you would have to prove damages.

    As far as your employer - she cannot control what is said when people are "off the clock."

    We agree with those respondents who have advised you that any claim would be against your former colleagues and not your former employer.

    However, depending upon the defamation and libel laws in your jurisdiction you may be able to sue your former colleagues for damages even if their comments did not cost you the employment opportunity.
