On a Well-pipe rattle & surges in pressure
On a well & I worry that the pump is going bad - or- the wells is going dry. It's a drilled deep well with a submerged pump. The pipe make a rattle & the water has surges in pressure wherever its used in the house. Any suggestions on what could be causing this
    Thank-you

The bladder tank's supposed to prevent a surge in pressure. Let me show you how to check it. There are several ways to test a bladder pressure tank. (1) Open the snifter valve on top of the tank. If water comes out tank's faulty, **OR** (2) Take a metal object and start at the bottom of the tank and start tapping. You should hear a "clunk" until you get about half way up the tank. Then you should hear a "clank".
If you hear the same noise all the way up the tank then it's faulty.
In both cases if it fails (1) and(2) the tank must be replaced. See if attention to the bladder tank will take care of the pipe rattle Good luck, Tom

SB is entirely correct. One more item... as a short term get-by, you can pressurize the tank if you have access to compressed air. Turn off the pump, then allow water to drain through a faucet. Use the "tire valve" on the top of the tank. Allow water to drain out as you put air in so as not to have the pressure build up over 60# or so. Once the tank is about half water/half air, then turn your system back on. Another plus with this is that it will settle the issue of whether the tank is the problem. However, it is short term as the air will dissolve into the water over a period of several weeks and you will be back to where you are now.
