Bankruptcy is not a matter of "how long you are Bankrupt".

Did you file a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy?

Hello, when you file bankruptcy, you will most likely have at least 2 or 3 court dates to hear various motions. On the last court date the debts will be discharged on a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Then all legally discharged debts that were listed discharged.. That is the end of it.

It will appear for the next 10 years on your credit report

If it was a Chapter 13 you would be making payments each month toward the debts. The length of time varies but would be about 3 years of payments.

You would received a letter of final discharge from the court in either case.

    USA Law:
Chapter 13 - stays on your record for 7 years
Chapter 7 - stays on your record for 10 years.
