    Toilet making noises
We moved into our new home about 1 year ago. The house was built in the 60's. Im hearing strange noises coming from our 2 toilets. One is in the bathroom in our bedroom and the other is in our main bathroom. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey Kelly:

I suspect that noise is the fill valve at the toilets refilling the tank because the FLAPPER is defective.

Test one toilet to start: Without disturbing tank for 12 hours, drop red/green food color dye into toilet TANK and see if color shows in the toilet BOWL. If does, then FLAPPER/TANK BALL leaks and needs to be replaced (replacement part should be available at most home supply stores). If not, then the fill valve itself may have issues.

Does the inside of your toilet tanks look like top or bottom picture..

Get back to us AFTER test with food color.

Different things make different noises. Please explain" strange noises".
Moan and groan? Whistle and screech? Drip and trickle? When does all this happen? Any time it wants? After a flush? In the middle of the night when everyone's asleep? Answer Mark and then answer me. Regards, Tom

Mark's answer is but one most plausible problem, answer Tom's questions to help the plumbers pin down you exact situation. Chances are good mark is on the right page since many noises come from the tank and ballcock so hang onto that picture. I got one from Tom quite some time ago.
