    Cold/Hot Water "Shock"
My house is approx. 20 yrs old. Is there a regulator I can put on my plumbing to stop cold/hot water "shocks" while showering when someone else flushes a toilet or turns on water elsewhere in the house?

    Hey Tami..

Tell me... you have a two or three handle tub/shower... yes?

The only real solution to this is to install a single handle, pressure-balancing valve... such as the symmons valve (click on link.). Here, when another fixture uses hot or cold water (or both) there is a corresponding drop in the opposite water being used and you notice a drop in pressure/volume... but you do not notice a drop in temperature... that make sense?

    Site Search Results...

There are many different pressure-balancing valve choices (see google.com).

If two or three handle, you will need a transition plate to convert from two/three handle tub/shower valve over to a single handle, pressure-balanced valve (see pic.).

Answer questions.. let me know what you can... Mark

For several months now, when we run the hot water in our bathroom faucet for about 30 seconds, we hear a "thunk," which is followed by about 50% pressure loss. Heater blows cold when "On", not at all on "Auto" [ 1 Answers ]

Our gas heater is 7 years old, and has worked fine in the two years we've rented here. This winter though, we can't get it to work consistently. When on "Auto", it doesn't turn on at all, no matter what temperature we select, and when we turn the fan to "On", it simply blows cold air. It...
