    Partial stack repair
    Hello I'm new here &need some advice. My stack is leaking again,tried bondo the first time.Im just going to replace the section of cast iron that is cracked(pvc&rubber boots).This is in the living room,how do I support the section above the cut and do I need to do something with the bottom portion.

    Hi MRLVDR9:

    You will need to purchase RISER CLAMPS (see pic) the size of the pipe.

    You install 1 at floor level and then install one five/six feet above floor. Then support the top hanger by placing 2"x4" studs under the wings of the riser clamp. You want to crank the nuts of clamp pretty darn tight.. ok? Use a ratchet.

    You could rent a cutter to cut cast iron... I do not recommend, however, for this case (can crush pipe and let shards fall into main pipe.. so don't uses here).. Use an 8/10 teeth/inch sawzall blade and cut away... cuts will be straight and new piping material will join nicely. Let us know if you need more information.

    Use shielded couplings to join/transition from cast iron to pvc if you can find them. Otherwise the 4 band husky clamps do great, too! See pic.
