    Renters rights
My wife and I and our child is being kicked to the curb for being late a week and an half. What is our rights and what do we need to do? We told him that we could pay him that in 2 weeks, we could see what we could do and get it before that. My wife told him that she wasn't going to lose our son over 350.00 dollars and he didn't seem to care about that. What can we do? Help us please.

Some of it depends on where exactly you live, renter's rights can vary from state to state. At the very least, you can stay put until he shows up with the sheriff and proper documentation to evict you from your home, don't let him pressure you into leaving and if he harasses you continually, call the police about it.

You have to be legally evicted - you can't just be kicked out.

And, unfortunately, your landlord doesn't have to give you any additional time to come up with your rent. If you are a week and a half late now and you need another two weeks April's rent will almost be due when March is paid. The landlord doesn't have to deal with that. And sadly for you, he doesn't have to care about you and your wife and your son - renting that apartment is income for him.

But the landlord does have to follow legal eviction procedures for your State.
