Are you logging on as two different users? What operating system are you using. Have clicked on your desk-top and then had the O/S auto arrange your icons?

Yes, make sure auto arrange is UN-Checked as well as all the other choices. When you right click on the desk top, then "Arrange Icons By" the only thing that should have a check mark is "show desktop icons".

Does this help OR is that already happening?

Your icon cache may be corrupt. Go to your profile folder in C:\documents and settings\%username%\Local Settings/Application Data and delete the IconCache.db file. Then logout and login again. The file will be recreated.

Note: the Local Settings and Application Data folders are hidden folders. You will need to be viewing hidden files and folders.

This article shows how to increase the icon cache size to speed up your desktop refresh.

    Here's the program I use:
    Icon Restore 1.0
Get your icons where you want them, right click on My Computer or the Recycle Bin and select "Save Desktop Icon Layout" If/when they are moved right click on either of the above mentioned icons and select the Restore feature. I use remote desktop several times a week and it always moves the icons. This is the best program that I've found to restore them. It's very small and very un-obtrusive.
