Looking for advice on replacing a shower stall. I pulled the old unit and purchased a new unit with the same dimensions (36x36x72). The drain pipe comes up through the foundation and has a built in square off-set around it. The pipe sticks out of the concrete in the recessed box about 4 inches. The new shower stall fits the walls but not the drain. The drain is about 3 inches of from the hole in the shower stall floor.

This is a place in the country and it is on a septic tank system. I don't have to worry about codes. Do I have to make a hard connection? By breaking concrete to align the pipe? It seems that I could cut the pipe build a concrete slop on the sides of the recessed area and not make the hard connection?

You are proposing to platform your shower base and build a dog leg from the drain to the trap raiser. Not a good idea when you consider all the hair and grease that gores down a tub or shower drain. This will will drain OK for a while but will give you problem farther on down the line. Much better to do it right the first time. Take up the floor and move the trap. Good luck, Tom
