    Probability
355 of Florex employees are classified as clerical, 40% as production, and 25% as management. 10% of clerical workers are male, whereas males constitute 80% of production workers and 60% of management.

    A) Are being female and working in management independent events? Explain
    b) Are being female and working in management mutually exclusive events? Explain

Can someone please help me with these two questions? I have no idea where to begin

    b) is easy - Are ANY females in management? If yes, then the 2 are not mutually exclusive.

    A) is harder, and in my opinion poorly worded. What we need to try to do is determine the percentage of female employees.

We know the number of clerical employees and the percent that are male. We can also determine the percentage of employees that are clerical.

With the information we now have we can calculate the number of employees in both production and management. We can also calculate the percentage of male (and female) employees in both of those areas.

We can not calculate the percentage of female employees throughout the company and compare that figure with the percentage in management.

The reason I say it is poorly worded is there is no "confidence interval" on the term "independent events".

Let me know if you think there are independent after you do the calculations.
