    False claim
This is a long story about 2 nights ago that I need help with! :-(

I just moved into an apartment/duplex. 2 nights ago I went over to the place with a friend and her fiancé. Shortly upon arriving, a neighbor (who was on his porch drinking a beer) tries to talk to us and offer help carrying items. He told me where he lived and I in turn said that I just moved into Apartment 4. He has a VERY large truck with a very sensitive car alarm, just walking past it to get to my place set off the warning. As the 3 of us are leaving about an hour and half later I am backing my car up and set off his alarm. I did NOT hit his vehicle. I stopped my car there and got out. The man came from his apartment (with yet another beer in hand) and asked what had happened. I explained that I was certain I had not hit his car but that I had set off his car alarm. Naturally, he was skeptical (can't blame him, I would be too) so his bumper was checked and he aknowledged that there was really no damage. After this, the three of us continue to have friendly conversation with the man for about half an hour. The man goes into his house and the three of us go to our separate cars and leave.

2 hours later I get a call from my fiance's father (he is a dispatcher) saying that he had taken a call from a man living in my apartment who was accusing me of a hit and run! At this point I am in complete disbelief! I did NOT hit his car for starters, AND I did not drive off! How can this man claim this if he stood there for half an hour talking to me AND after he saw no damage!

The police would not file a report because the "dent" he claimed I put into his truck had no paint transfer or any sign that it had to have been caused by another vehicle. Also, the apartment is private property.

I am just curious what my drunken neighbor can do now? Can he stand by his false story and take me to a small claims court? But also, isn't making a false report a crime in itself? Please help!

Yes, he can lie and take you to small claiims court if he wants to.

Also the there is a lot of reports that do not produce enough evidence to proceede, but are not done as false reports.
    Welcome to drunken america
