Hi. Good for you for wanting to go blonde. I was blonde for 15 years and tried to go to another color, and now I'm in the middle of a hair disaster! Ick!
So, if you want to go blonde, here's some things I have to say:
1. Go to a professional. Do NOT do it yourself.
2. If your hair is already darker than a light brown, you need to think about the long term maintenance commitment. It's a lot to keep it looking good. I went every 4 weeks to get my roots touched up. You have to be ready.
3. Make sure it will work for you. If you have a dark or olive complexion, you may look bad blonde. Usually, if you have a dark blonde hair naturally or had blonde hair as a child, going blonder or blonde highlights will look good on you. OR, if you have a light or fair complexion, blonde will work for you. If you have red tones in your skin, you need an ashy or cool toned blonde to balance that. If you have cool tones in your skin, you can go with a golden blonde or a warmer blonde.
4. I recommend starting slowly, with a few highlights by a professional. Tell them you want a flash foil. If you like it, go for more next time. You can always add, but you can not easily take away.
Have fun! I can't wait until I get myself back to blonde from this horrendous mess I'm in myself!
