Odor in bathroom/laundry
Hello - I live on the second floor of a condo building (4 stories total). We have a horrible smell that comes only from one of our two bathrooms. This bathroom is also located right next to our washer and dryer. To us, it smells like balogna or "salted meat". It seems to be worse in the winter than in the summer and only happns at night (maybe 4 timesd per week). The smell seems to originate from under the sink but also is very strong around the washer and dryer. We just replaced the vanity top and sink and re-hooked up all the plumbing. No foul oder in that process - we did see water in the trap under the sink.
We recently had a separate issue with the flapper on our toilet not working properly and the other night, the toilet flushed, the tank began to fill and then water began shooting out of the back of the toilet - almost where the tank meets the bowl. We replaced the flapper and toilet has neen OK since then. In reading other postings, I thought maybe it was the wax seal on the toilet but the smell does not come from there. Again - we are in a condo so we can't just jump on the roof. I have not noticed any bubbling or gurgling. Every so often, the toilet makes a noise like it has been flushed, but it hasn't (I always chalked that up to my neighbors). The smell is just horrible and we have no idea what to do. If it is sewer gas, how do we keep it from coming up? Would gas also come up the water line to the washing machine? Any help you can provide would be great. |

OK - it makes the same sound as if the bowl is filling after you flush. This does not happen often at all - maybe once a week at most... We will just be sitting here watching TV and then we hear the toilet sort of "run". It last for 30 seconds at most.
The smell, however, does not seem to come from the toilet but from under the sink and around the washing machine. Thanks for your help. |
