    Odor when doing laundry
New here and searched but could not find the answer. Here's my situation.
Every time I run my laundry located in the basement I get an odor coming from our sump pit.
The laundry water discharges into our utility sink. This sink drains directly to a sump hole. (two sump holes in basement) which is about 4 feet from the hole. When the sump fills to a certain level, the sump is pumped up through a pipe which runs somewhere underground. I do not believe there is an issue with the pump or p-flow valve because the smell begins immediately when the water starts to drain into the pit. The pump doesn't have to run for the odor to be present. Here's the catch, when I simply run clean water into the utility sink, there is no foul smell, only when doing laundry. The odor is not sewage smell but more gaseous sulfer smell. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Try pouring bleach into the sink drain and letting it set in the sump. Let me know how it works for you. Regards, Tom

Thanks. Will give it a shot. This will not harm the pump or anything? I was thinking about using that rid-x stuff used to clean septic tanks. Anyway, will try the bleach. Any idea how much and how long?

"Any idea how much and how long?" I would put at least 1/2 gallon and leave it for a few hours.. It shouldn't damage the pump. Regards, Tom
